# Build a law firm dashboard in Notion

A Notion law firm dashboard is a home page of linked database views: deadlines this week, active matters, tasks due, unbilled time and overdue invoices. LawyerOS ships with Deadlines this week and Active matters; you add the rest with filtered views of the same databases.

## Key takeaways

- A dashboard is a set of filtered views, not a separate database.
- Limit it to six blocks or fewer, or nobody will read it.
- Put the highest-risk item (deadlines) at the top.
- Numbers are only as good as the data entered.

## Blocks worth having

| Block | Source | Filter | Edition |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Deadlines this week | Deadlines | Due in next 7 days, not done | Starter, Pro |
| Active matters | Matters | Status is Active | Starter, Pro |
| My tasks | Actions | Assignee is me, not done | Pro |
| Unbilled time | Time | Billable and not invoiced | Pro |
| Overdue invoices | Invoices | Issued and past due | Pro |
| Awaiting response | Matters or Actions | Status is Waiting | Both with a status |

## Build it

1. Open the home page: Press / and add a linked view of database, pointing to the source.
2. Filter and sort: Apply the filter from the table, then sort by date.
3. Choose properties: Show only three or four columns.
4. Lay out: Use columns for two blocks side by side.
5. Add a personal version: A dashboard per person that filters by the current user avoids clutter.

Filter mechanics are covered in views and filters for deadlines.

## A weekly review block

Add a short checklist at the bottom: clear inbox into actions, check next week's deadlines, update matter statuses, record time. A simple recurring checklist beats a complicated chart.

## Limits

Notion has charts on some plans, but a dashboard here is for attention, not accounting. Do not treat its totals as financial reports.

## Common mistakes

- Too many blocks, so the page loads slowly and nothing stands out.
- Filters set for one person but shared with everyone.
- Relying on dashboard numbers without checking source data.
- Using the home page for everything instead of linking to detail views.

Review the dashboard monthly and remove any block nobody looked at.
