Build it
- 1
Open the home page
Press / and add a linked view of database, pointing to the source.
- 2
Filter and sort
Apply the filter from the table, then sort by date.
- 3
Choose properties
Show only three or four columns.
- 4
Lay out
Use columns for two blocks side by side.
- 5
Add a personal version
A dashboard per person that filters by the current user avoids clutter.
Filter mechanics are covered in views and filters for deadlines.
A weekly review block
Add a short checklist at the bottom: clear inbox into actions, check next week's deadlines, update matter statuses, record time. A simple recurring checklist beats a complicated chart.
Limits
Notion has charts on some plans, but a dashboard here is for attention, not accounting. Do not treat its totals as financial reports.
Common mistakes
- Too many blocks, so the page loads slowly and nothing stands out.
- Filters set for one person but shared with everyone.
- Relying on dashboard numbers without checking source data.
- Using the home page for everything instead of linking to detail views.
Review the dashboard monthly and remove any block nobody looked at.
Frequently asked questions
- Can I add charts?
- Notion offers chart views on certain plans; check what your plan includes.
- Can clients see the dashboard?
- Keep internal dashboards private. For clients, see the client portal guide.
- Why are my numbers wrong?
- Check filters first, then missing or inconsistent data.
- Does Starter have a dashboard?
- Starter's home page includes Deadlines this week and Active matters.
