Before the weekend
- Buy and download the template from the link in your purchase email
- Create or choose a Notion workspace and decide who needs access
- Export a list of open matters and upcoming deadlines to a spreadsheet
- Read the how to set up a Notion template guide
Saturday: structure and data
| Block | Task |
|---|---|
| Morning, part 1 | Duplicate LawyerOS into your workspace; open the Quick Start Guide (Pro) |
| Morning, part 2 | Adjust Matter properties: practice areas, matter types, statuses |
| Afternoon, part 1 | Import open matters from CSV into the Matters database |
| Afternoon, part 2 | Enter or import deadlines and link each to its matter |
| Evening | Check ten matters by hand against your old records |
Notion's CSV import maps columns to properties. Check dates and select values after importing.
Sunday: views, pilot, procedure
- 1
Build your views
My matters, Deadlines this week, Deadlines next 30 days. See views and filters for deadlines.
- 2
Set up people
Add team members and set page permissions.
- 3
Pilot
Run through a new enquiry, an incoming deadline and a time entry on dummy data, then on a real matter.
- 4
Write the procedure
One page: where things go, who updates what, and the weekly review.
- 5
Plan week one
Block 15 minutes daily to update, and compare the new deadline list to the old one each Friday.
What to leave for later
Skip automations, custom AI Agents and elaborate dashboards in the first weekend. Add them after a month of real use. Starter has Matters and Deadlines; Pro adds Actions, Time, Team, Evidence, Research, Clients and Invoices databases, so decide which edition fits before you start.
LawyerOS does not calendar court rules for you. Keep verifying deadlines against the applicable rules.
If you run out of time
- Prioritise: deadlines, then active matters, then people, then views.
- Leave historic matters for the following week.
- Do not customise property names until you have used the template for a few days.
- Note what annoyed you and fix it in one batch on the next Friday.
A partly configured but accurate deadline list is worth more than a polished system with missing data.
Frequently asked questions
- Is a weekend realistic for a firm?
- For a solo or small firm with a few dozen open matters, yes for a basic setup. Larger firms should plan a phased roll-out.
- Should I move closed matters?
- Not at first. Keep them in your old system or import later.
- Can I get help?
- Email hello@notionforlawyers.com with questions.
- What if it does not suit me?
- There is a 7-day refund; see the refund policy.
