Criteria that matter
| Criterion | What to look for |
|---|---|
| Database structure | Matters, deadlines, tasks and clients as linked databases |
| Saved views | Active matters, due this week, overdue, waiting |
| Editability | You can rename and remove properties without breaking links |
| Honest scope | Says what it does not do |
| Support and refunds | A contact and a refund window |
| Security notes | Reminds you to review Notion's terms and your bar's guidance |
Run each template through a trial: add three real-shaped matters, a deadline and a task, and see if the home page tells you what to do tomorrow.
Where to look
- Notion Template Gallery: project management templates
- Our guide to templates for lawyers
- Free Notion templates compared
- LawyerOS
- Free starter structure
The Notion gallery is general-purpose. Use it as raw material, then adapt it to matters and deadlines using our guides.
What we can and cannot verify
We can verify the contents and behaviour of our own template, and we can confirm that Notion maintains a public template gallery. We cannot verify the quality, support or sales claims of third-party legal templates that we have not purchased and used, so we do not name or rank them. If you find one, apply the criteria above and ask the seller the awkward questions: what does it not do, and what happens if it does not fit?
Be cautious of any page that ranks templates without explaining how it tested them, including affiliate-driven lists.
Frequently asked questions
- What is the best Notion template for lawyers?
- It depends on your practice. Use the criteria above; we do not rank products we have not tested.
- Is LawyerOS the best?
- We think it is a good fit for solo and small practices who want matters and deadlines, but we are biased. Try the refund window.
- Are free templates worth it?
- Often, yes. Judge them by the same criteria.
- Should a template include AI?
- Only if it explains clearly what is Notion's AI and what is the template.
