Which guide to read first, by situation
| Your situation | Read first | Then |
|---|---|---|
| Evaluating Notion, nothing bought yet | Best way to use Notion for lawyers | Legal case management in Notion |
| Just bought LawyerOS | Set up LawyerOS in a weekend | Intake form, then Deadline tracker |
| Leaving a spreadsheet or old system | The migration guides in the guides hub | Conflict checks, then Billing tracker |
| Adding staff | Onboarding, SOPs and Firm wiki | Paralegal guide |
| Worried about confidentiality | Notion security and confidentiality | Can lawyers use Notion for client data |
Reading order matters less than finishing one workflow end to end. A working Matters and Deadlines pair beats ten half-built databases.
How the guides are written, and common mistakes
Each guide describes a workflow you build with Notion databases, relations and saved views. They say plainly where Notion stops: it does not hold client money, calculate court-rules deadlines, file with a court or replace billing software. Where a guide touches law or ethics it is general information, so check the rules in your own jurisdiction.
- Building everything at once. Start with Matters and Deadlines and add one database a month.
- Skipping the conflict check step because it is dull. It is the step most worth systemising.
- Treating a template as finished. Rename stages and properties to match how your firm talks.
- Putting sensitive source documents in Notion without a decision. Read the data guide first.
- Trusting a date the system displays. Verify limitation and court dates against the rules yourself.
Frequently asked questions
- Where should I start?
- With the weekend setup plan if you have bought LawyerOS, or the best-way guide if you are still evaluating.
- Are these guides legal advice?
- No. They describe software workflows; follow your own professional rules.
- Do I need Pro?
- Starter covers Matters and Deadlines. Pro adds more databases; each guide says which.
- How do I get help?
- Email hello@notionforlawyers.com.
- Do the guides assume I use LawyerOS?
- They are written around it, but the structures (databases, relations, views) work in any Notion workspace. Where a guide needs a database the template does not ship, it says so.
